Techno, Old School, Electro

In an era of algorithmic fatigue and “content-first” clubbing, Back to Basics is a reclamation of the booth. This night is a deliberate rejection of the 30-second attention span. We are moving away from the homogenous, relentless peak-time same old loops that dominate social feeds, returning instead to the fundamental art of the disc jockey: storytelling through selection.
The Core Concept: DJing as Collage: The night is built around the metaphor of the Patchwork Quilt. A proper set is not a single, flat texture; it is a collage of distinct, disparate elements stitched together to create a new, cohesive whole. The lineup will feature selectors who understand that a DJ set is an act of curation and re-contextualization.
We are looking for the craftsmanship of weaving together:
• Textures: Grainy dub echoes against sharp industrial percussion.
• Eras: 90s Detroit soul layered over modern hypnotic grooves.
• Tempos: The confidence to slow down, breathe, and rebuild tension, rather than sprinting at 145 BPM for two hours.
To maintain the integrity of the “Back to Basics” philosophy, the artists (from the SPOT’M collective and guests) are briefed on the following pillars: 1. Technique as a Tool: Long blends and EQ work are used to create new sonic colors, not just to transition from A to B. 2. Dynamic Range: The set must have peaks and valleys. A set that sounds the same at minute 10 as it does at minute 50 is considered a failure of imagination. 3. The “Third Track”: The goal is to layer two distinct tracks to create a “third track” that exists only in that moment—the essence of the patchwork.
